Manufacturing Help Needed - CNC Router
I hope someone in here can help me.
One of my hobbies is flying remote controlled helicopters. I have designed some new sideframes for one of my favourite models to take advantage of LiPoFe4 battery technology. The sideframes have been drawn in AutoCAD2007 and I have made a few iterations out of 2mm plywood using my Delta scroll saw, drill bits and end mills in a drill press. Latest development appears in the photo.
Each frame fits within the dimensions of an A4 page. I have been printing out the drawing on my home printer and gluing it to the plywood to stack cut two at a time.
The final version will be made out of G10 or G11 epoxy figreglass in 2.0mm or 2.5mm thickness. It comes in sheet sizes around 1200mm x 900mm or so for around $150. This stuff is known in the electrical industry as "rigid insulation". It is relatively stiff but easily machined. I can source the material. No problem there.
My difficulty is finding someone who can make the frames for me for a reasonable cost. Commercial rates are way beyond my budget, especially considering how often I crash my models .
I'm very happy to pay to have the work done and donate some material to the maker for his/her own jobs if required.
Although I'm fairly confident of my drawing accuracy, I would like a pair of protoype CNC cut frames as a final check, before a "production run" of say 6 pairs of frames.
I think a hole positioning accuracy of 0.1mm is around what will be required.
I live in Brisbane.Last edited by brw0513; 18th January 2009 at 10:21 PM. Reason: Can't spell.

If the fact that I am in Victoria does not bother you I would be happy to look at it.
Can you post or send via email your DXF or DWG.
Perhaps if the material is cut to appropriate size on a table saw or such, it may be easier and cheaper to post.

Nice and complex but not too difficult for Greg though
Welcome home
Would not mind seeing the full model too....

Will be more than happy to post some pictures if the project ever gets off the ground, so to speak.

Hi,
I'm into R/C gliders myself, Southside Brisbane. I have a table that can do what you need.
Most importantly, I've just completed my router build and am willing to take on a few test projects, cheap.
0.1mm over a full sheet would be a fair test, in theory it should hold close to 0.02mm.
PM if interested.
Cheers,
Justin.
