Remove Proof Tint from Bone inlay
I am restoring an antique chinese marriage bed and have uses a red 'proof tint' to stain the wood. Unfortunately some stain has also gotten onto the bone inlay and I haven't been able to remove it. I have tried bleach.
Any other suggestions?

OOpsy,
meths will desolve prooftint but I think your going to have to take the inlay out.
If you try to clean it in situ it will also bleed out the stain in the surrounding timber and make a mess of what you've done.
Whats the inlay, bone? I'll experiment on a bit and get back, there's no point in pulling it all out it wont unstain if you know what i mean?
be back soon
OK, just consulted a Pro, try washing an inconspicuous bit with meths then sand it, it this works your going to have to re do all your work.
dont try to take the inlay out, I forgot, bone is v brittle and you'll break it, If your not too far away (like within 10km, I can come and have a look)
Some pictures would help
