Where to buy Wooden Pins??
Hi Guys, I'm a new member and looking forward to learning from some "old hands".....and hopefully also sharing some of my learning's.
Firstly though I have a question! Does anyone know where i could get some of the little wooden pins I see everyone using to attached the rotors on helicopters/ planes etc? You know the ones I mean; like a dowel with a pan head on them, similar to a rivet.
I cant find them anywhere and as I don't have a lathe I cant make them. Thanks in advance for any help.

Don't know anywhere that sells them but if you have the dimensions you could probably get some made by someone who has a lathe.

Are these what you are looking for?
If so i get all of mine online. I have no place local to get most craft parts.
Most times i get them from craftparts.com . there are a lot of places that have them.

Craftparts [Woodworks Ltd] in Texas, USA, are a first class wooden toy parts supplier especially if you want to get a bit if a bulk supply going....
There are a few local Australian suppliers, it all depends on your quantity and access..... Cheers crowie

Thanks Guys, everyone has been a big help and very fast replies.
So these are called "axle pins"....now I know that sounds logical but I had tried searching under all sorts of names but couldn't locate them. And the various hardware store folks gave me blank looks when asking.
The suggested sellers look good and I will definitely be placing an order soon. Thanks again and bear with me while I learn how to use the forum tools.
Cheers

Woodenjoys will be the cheapest supplier in Australia. Craft Parts in the USA have fantastic prices on their components, but unfortunately shipping kills the benefit.

Thanks for the links, Peter. Jacsar (Aust) used to advertise in The Australian Woodworker magazine. I sent them an email, and apparently Bob Manuell has retired, and Ian Greenlaw has taken over his business.
Here is the link: woodbits

Kwaka
If I need one (or more) and I don't have any on hand, I just make my own. If I need a pin 6mm in diameter, I take a short piece of 6mm dowell, say 70mm long and a short piece of a larger dowel, say 12mm diameter. I then drill a 6mm hole in the end of the larger dowell. At this stage I don't cut the larger dowell to length. Then I glue the 6mm dowell into the end of the larger dowell and allow to dry. When dry I cut the larger dowell at about 12 mm long. Then I place the 6mm dowell in my cordless drill and carefully shape the larger dowell to a cap shape by applying it to my belt sander. Tjhis is also a great way to make a cone shaped head to hold on a propellor.
Cheers,
Superfoot
