The Happy Clapper
G'day all,
When I turned fifty ( a few years ago) I was given a little kit to make up called "The Happy Clapper".
It was a hoot, but its now a few years old, but still works, and I thought it might be just the bees' knees for woodies to make as presents. My Happy Clapper sits on a shelf in the workshop, and when the sun came out today, I took three pics of it to show.
The upshoot of the post is that I'm going to make a new Happy Clapper out of better wood, and as I measure and plan, I was wondering if a set of plans would be helpful here.
So here are a few hurried pics of the Happy Clapper.

What a great present, I dare say from a great present giverer. There's some great mechanical toys about but it's the old ones and those made from scrap materials that do it for me, the more happly niave the better in most cases, just like Happy Clapper. I couldn't help, hope you don't mind, dusting off Pedal Man who like Happy Clapper sits on a shelf in my workshop and who always brings a smile.

Ok I've attached a set of rough plans as a PDF file.
This is as the toy exists at the moment, and I would make a few amendments to these for stability.
I intend using tooth-pick dowels at several points ( nominal 2.5mm dia ) such as :
Fixing the cam to the main shaft
Fixing the Arms and yokes to their shafts
Fixing the crank to the main shaft
and I would place a shaft flange at the rear of the body on each of the Arm shafts.
Have a look, and any amendments are all up to you. I think all the required measurements are in the drawings.

Thanks a lot Noel between your pictures and plan even I should be able to manage making one, which I will one day, although it's very tempting to start now. Just one thing I don't get though is the triangular cam When the "cam follower" sits on one of the cam sides, I just can't see how it's driven to an apex and around to the next side, I thought it would lock, please excuse my blondeness
