Rocketship Mark IV
Started Mark IV. This is my favorite one so far. It is Maple and Mahogany for the staves. The glueup was a bit tricky but just took my time.
Thanks for looking. This one will have more detail to it. Have to make an indexing jig for my chuck to do the next part.

Hello Derek. I thought about that. Wasn't sure if this fit in over there. I have been browsing the turning section for the last month or so. Guess I 'll give it a go and see.

G'Day Bret,
Did I miss something somewhere, have you changed jobs?
Do you now have a position in the NASA R&D department making all theses rocket-ship prototypes!!
You are sure showing us you skills on the lathe with laminated timber, very well done.
Cheers, crowie

Ha I wish. NASA doesn't even have a space vehicle right now. Maybe I should give them a call. We can stop bumming rides to the Space station on Russian rockets. LOL

Made a couple of jigs to finish out this Rocketship. It was 103* today so the workshop is about 87* to hot for me!
First one is a indexing jig for my chuck. I was going to make one that used the backside of the chuck when I realized the outside had indexing as well and a 1/8" drill bit fit perfect. So it doesn't get any simpler than that.
Second one is for drilling holes. Just a simple platform that fits in my tool rest. Now you can probably guess what is next.

Looking good Bret.
As usual I've learned something - now I know what an indexing jig is.... Steve

Got a little bit more done today. It is hot again today hitting triple digits. Spent about an hour and half and I had enough. Plus going this afternoon to get some parts for the 64'. Bottom brackets for the in cab gas tank.
I used both the jigs I made and successful drilled the holes for the rivets around the top and bottom.
I also sanded it to 600 grit. You can see the sheen in this pic.
I then cutoff some brass pins and glued them in. These pins are a few decades old. I bought them in a big box of stuff at a garage sell. They have some patina on them.
Next up is making the fins and the rocket engine.

Finally made some progress on the Rocketship. Glued all four wings on. Next up is the nose cone and then a finish of clear.
Picture is fuzzy but this is the jig I used to make sure all the wings come out even.

Really looking good, Bret. By far the best rocket to date.
Can't wait to see it complete.
Will there be a Mk V?... Steve
