Rocking Horse
HI All,
I have had a few queries about Rocking Horses lately, so here is a simple Rocking Horse which you can make out of Pine 290mm x 19mm and 120 x 35mm so easily obtainable from any Bunnings store or most Mitre 10's.
I have attached pictures of a plain head which is easily cut out with a band saw and one I did on the router with a bit more detail. If you want the extra detail on the head or would like the stainless steel rockers and brackets I have attached the link below.

With this type of design you can make a very functional horse which is suitable for 2 to 6yr olds and since it is all timber and stainless steel it last many years and can be passed down through the family.
I use 100mm x 6.6mm batten screws to hold his legs on with and find this works very well. The uprights I turned on the wood lathe out of 70mm x 70mm. I use aluminium tubing from the hardware store to slot the Stainless steel rockers into and I thread them to put a Stainless Steel dome nut on.
I find the thread cutter I have from Hare and Forbes needs replacing fairly regularily when I use it on the Stainless steel, does anyone have any better idea?

Thanks for the pics.
I make about 40 horses a year with a similar swing mechanism.
The horses are painted by a 3rd party in a variety of colors (look like clowns).
The heads on these horses are more pleasing than mine. I have been wanting to
do something more natural and this is my incentive. So I am going to revolt and
do something that doesn't look like a clown.

Stainless is a bastard of a stuff to work. You could just drill a hole in the rod and use a split pin to hold it with a cap over the lot, or perhaps got to normal steel, even nickel plating that if you want a shiny finish.

Good work Phil, The new design on the head is nicely detailed.
Reality is no background music.
Cheers John
