Simple ride-on plane and tractor
Hi everybody
Just thought I would post a piccy of some easy to make toys.
The whole unit is made from pine and when I have entered it in a show I make solid wooden wheels.
This is a ride-on tractor also made from pine.
Both have been finished with either several coats of Danish oil and some over the years have been finished with a glossy urethane finish (looks nice) but a little expensive except for immediate family, oh, and their friends, and their neighbours... you know the story.
Hope you like them.

I love the back wheels on the tractor! I am all for the 'simple' ones that I can make in time for the kids to use! How easy does the tractor ride?
cheers

Hi Mick
The tractor is supposedly an indoor-only sort of toy - though I have seen them ridden on concrete paths.
It rides smoothly and is quite stable with a toddler neatly attached, hanging on to the steering wheel, feet scooting along the ground
The body is generally made up of several (6 or 7 pieces) bits pine (19mm) laminated together. To lighten it a tad, I have used meranti sometimes but that is a very soft wood.
The rear wheels are 2 bits of 19mm pine laminated and are quite easy to make.
The front wheels are usually also laminated pine unless I have some thick stuff in the 'projects-in-waiting' box.
Overall, the tractor is speed limited by how fast the parents can keep up with the thing buzzing down the drive way
Regards
