If you do a search in this forum you should find the information you require, there are 3 different classes of bearings that will fit the CR model.
All of the AR,BRand CR models as far as I know use the same size bearings.
The difference with the 3 classes of bearing relates to there precision, the Standard being the Cheapest and latter of the 3 being the Dearest.
For your particular application the Standard Bearings should be fine(the choice is up to user but the COST might surprise you).
If you have allready dismantled your Headstock you should be able to get the bearing numbers off your cones.
The Bearing Nos for Standard Timken Bearings are
Front 18685 Cone 18620
Rear 14138A Cone 14276Last edited by pipeclay; 30th August 2009 at 07:53 PM. Reason: More Info

They generally use precision 3 tapered roller bearings in machine tools for a reason....Best to replace them with prec 3..
FWIW only tapered rollers use the prec 1, 2, 3 nomenclature...Everything else uses the ABEC system..

What a delemma,
I'm yet to face the aquisition of new bearings for my Hercus, both rusted. Much has been written in this forum re bearings, except where to purchase precision 3 bearings at a reasonable price.
Precision 1 can be obtained for around $100 a set off the shelf, precision 3, about $1000+ per set, special order.
A big difference.
If someone knows where a cheap set can be obtained, I would love to know.

Wow....
From here http://steammachine.com/hercus/page7.html
Ha! Another year skipped. I emailed Ken late in 2008 and the consensus was that, as hobby machinists, we would not be in a position to know the difference between a headstock fitted with off-the-shelf bearings for $100 and the precision bearings for $1000. He has a friend who runs a CNC production shop and his worn machines are refitted with standard bearings without detriment. It's a comforting thought and one that I'll cling to when the time comes to do something about mine.
