Hercus identification please
Hi
Can anyone out there identify the lathe shown in the accompanying photos. It was donated to our local Men's Shed. It comes from a High School. It says on the end plate that it is Model CM. On another plate on the door on the left side of the stand it has Serial No. 6802073. Jack620 very kindly sent me PDF copies of some literature pertaining to Hercus lathes but a positive ID of this particular lathe would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in anticipation

Metric
Mick
The M = metric version, but you know that already .
C = model C which means it was built without a quick change Norton gearbox . Instead of using the gearbox to cut various pitch threads on a workpiece , you have to change the gears that drive the leadscrew ... hope that helps. I hope you got a gear change set with it otherwise you will have to buy one .
Basically, its a copy of a USA South Bend 9" lathe that was designed in the 1930's and built in large numbers for many years . Spares are generally available - FW Hercus in Adelaide manufactured a clone version of them also , yours is the Hercus made version. There are 3 versions A B and C ......you have the C model .

Dunno Azzrock, I'll have a look tomorrow (Wednesday).
Thanks Pipeclay and Morrisman.
Mike, we hope to be able to get all the gear to go with the lathe. There were a number of lathes, both metalwork and woodwork, donated to our Regional group for distribution to the Member Men's sheds. All the go-withs are floating around somewhere and hopefully will be re-united with the lathes soon. We also got a Woodfast wood lathe, 8 inch Pedestal Grinder, Pedestal Drill, various M/W & W/W benches, Forbes metal hacksaw. Very magnanimous gesture on the part of the donating High School.
A lot of the Sheds don't have 3 phase power available - we don't as yet but are working on it.
