For the hercus register only
Hi all, again as we now have 124 Hercus ,Sheraton owners on the site,I am wondering if I have maybe missed a few
So please can this thread please be used for new owners registering ONLY
As I have been going through the original thread trying to make sure that everyone is on the Register, and it does get a bit sidetracked
So Please check the REGISTER if you are not on it please use this thread or email me at Home [email protected]
As you can see by the Register it does not matter if you own a Sheraton or a South Bend lathe or Mill or any Machine that came from these 3 factories
I know of no one who has any other Register in Australia who is collecting DATA to see what is left
If anyone has any details about the Sheraton serial numbers that can be used to date the machines I would appreciate any material
all the best Derek bitza500

Thought it was about time I should add my machine to the register. No.0 Horizontal Milling Machine. Serial No. OLM 397, Manufactured ? Colour Beige, Condition, should be better, Extras, vertical head( missing a gear), acquired from a local school.

i believe robby rogers has all the dates for specific sheraton serial nos, iknow mine was sold in 1953 because my father bought it new from george sheraton for charlie ash and there is no numbers on that machine.its a shame its not trackable but at least i know its history.

Hi mate.
I have a 4 1/2" Sheraton which I'm slowly tidying up.
Serial B107
Here's a pic from when I first got it home. It's now on a bench & was running until I took the saddle apart to get rid of the free play.
I'd love to know more about the age of the machine if anyone can work it out from the serial.

1940 Model B
Hi Al, your Model B is dated at 1940 but has had the v-belts added instead of flat belts
If you get into trouble email me and I will send you a US ARMY repair book for the South Bend it is 90% accurate for working on the Hercus
all the best Derek

Thanks for the info Derek.
1940 eh.... I'm not sure why but I'm pretty chuffed with that.
Thanks for the offer of the repair book. So far I've found what I need on the net but I'll let you know if I get stuck.
Thanks again.
Al
