Cant recall exactly off the top without looking but the H stands for Horizontal drive, not sure but I think all Hercus lathes in the 9" were Vertical.I think this was classed a P.
After the 9" the 260 became a Horizontal drive.
Southbends are of the Horizontal type with some of there models, and also Sherraton.

    HI,
I am not sure, I had a Model A Plain Bearing in H Pattern. The 9" was available in both 'H' Pattern being Vertical and 'P' Pattern being Horizontal. The Manual does really Say anything apart from referencing 'H' to the Vertical Drive. There is a Model 'AH' on Ebay now clearly marked as 'AH' Hercus Workshop Precision Lathe - Model AH | eBay . I looked at and couldn't see the Difference.

    Evening all,
I don't know the difference in the configuration of this Model A, but if you were thinking to bid, you should know that the attached chuck appears to be a Burnerd Griptru http://www.600uk.com/data/downloads/...0Catalogue.pdf
This is a plus for the purchase!

Yes the one on Ebay is the one I am referring to, I bought a Model A that is Identical to it, just couldn't see any differences, thought someone may be able to shed some light.

PS the model A I bought had a 3 jaw Burned Chuck on it.

Is the lathe you purchased an early model as the one on ebay or the latter with the cam lock tailstock and altered cross slide and compound.

That lathe on ebay at that price at the moment is free, the extras are worth more than the asking price.

It is the early model Non Cam lock (1955) by the serial number. Tailstock and bed have same serials.

I was looking at that one. Its 6 hours away and I don't think I need all those extras. Still undecided.
