    Default Opinion on these two

The seller is very light on any details and suspect there wouldn't be many extras with either lathes.

Any comments on if either of these would be worthwhile for a beginner

As first seen you would select the A model,Quickchange gearbox, powered cross feed.
The C model will require change gears for different feed rates and screw cutting.
Both lathes look to be about the same age, both have the early style cross slide.
The A has a Thread chasing dial.
Both appear to have chucks fitted, probably 3 jaw.
The C seems to have all its guards.
The C has a drill in the Tailstock.
The A has more parts associated with the feed that could be worn or damaged.
Both lathes look to be the same length but the question should be asked.
The guarding can be bought for the A model,as can most parts for either machine if they require replacing.
The C could possably reach $700 to $800 anything around the $600 or less would be good.
The A may go for anything upto $1100 to $1500 ,$900 or less would be a good price.
Expect there to be some damage seeing they have come from an educational enviroment, generally school machines seem to show damage more so than wear.
Guarding for the A if required could be a few hundred dollars.
Converting the C to a quickchange would also be a few hundred dollard although you would really need to go to the added exspence of the A model carriage.
It would be good if you could look at the machines to have a feel of the handles for wear and a look at the spindles.
