    Default Carbatec 16 inch

Do any of you have an opinion on the Carbatec 16 inch Scroll Saw?

I realise that they are cheap but with the 3 year warranty ,it makes me wonder .

I want it to make plywood and plastic templates ,probably no thicker than 20mm.

    I appreciate any comments.

    Regards

    Greg

Hi, I use a similar, fairly cheapish saw to mainly cut out shapes for this and that. It uses pinned blades and came with an adaptor for using pinless blades but it doesn't work very well. If your work requires a lot of holes to be cut out consider a machine with a blade setup with quick release pinless blades. Pinless blades are available (as far as I know) in a broader range of teeth per inch variations.

Me and my one speed, pinned blade machine get on very well for the type of work we do but if I was doing work of the type which required having to release and retention the blade a lot (it give you the irrates) consider another machine. Hope this helps

ps. I've cut 20mm/greater, no worries with pine and such or ply, hardwood slower but depending on the blade not a hassle. Just one other thing, ply blunts baldes quicker than most solid woods.

    Thanks Springwater,

I am between pillow and post .I really dont want to spend a lot on one but on the other hand I dont want to get something that is useless.

The 3 year warranty that Carbatec offers kind of got me thinking about that one.

There is heaps of second hand ones around (GMC,RYOBI,ETC) but I am really dubious about this stuff.

    Regards

    Hi Greg,
My wife bought a Carba Tec recently, it takes pinless blades, has a variable speed control, runs very smooth, it short she loves it.
She has cut 19mm pine quite easily.
I have replaced the 2 small plastic bushes on each side of the quick blade release lever with a hegney type fittings. $3.00 or try thin nylon fuel hose.
    Have fun Barry
