Patterns from overseas
Hi
I do not know if anybody else has been caught so I thought I would post my experience. I have bought a few patterns from America before and had them sent by email at no extra charge, I saw a pattern that a friend would really like at Wildwood Designs for US$6.95 and the site said for o/s customers freight would be shown at checkout and it shows postage as $0.00 int so I thought beauty so I bought it. Then I got a email to say total cost would be $41 and if that is not bad enough it took 26 days to get here 5 A4 sheets of the pattern and 2 cataloges which I did not ask for.
So be carefull when dealing with Wild Wood Designs I hope it saves somebody money

Good advice there, thanks a lot. I had a magazine from a well known publishing company in woodworking lines, who charged only about $5.00 AUD for mailing. It took nearly four months.
The age of shipping containers is with us, and now we have stuff sent at the same speed the old wind-jammers could do it, or a little longer.Buzza.

Pattern suppliers
There are a couple other pattern suppliers, "Scroller" magazine and "Cherrytree"...don't know if they would pull the same stuff on you about the postage, but you can always ask "before" you purchase...........I hate getting ripped off on postage!

I use to use Wildwood all the time but since new people bought it, it has gone downhill. I think they also own Cherrytree.

Old Paul, Thankfully I haven't been caught, I have read elsewhere about their high shipping costs and decided to give them a miss, which I'm really disappointed about because they have some beautiful patterns.
I have emailed them a couple of times but they do not reply, they obviously don't want business from Aussies. ...their loss..

Anything shipped from or to overseas costs heaps in shipping. We have 3 grandchildren in Texas and family in Germany... we KNOW!
I've yet to find a company that doesn't charge shipping for goods like books and patterns. Before ordering .... doublecheck if you see $0.00 you know the old saying about things being too good to be true! It could just be a computer glitch!
Also..... if you don't specify air mail everything goes via sea... and yep.... that'll take about 3 months! Try thinking of sending x-mas parcels end September!
Maybe we ought to just try to get Aussies to come up with their own patterns, books etc for scrolling.... we don't even have our own aussie magazine yet.... as far as I know there are only two thin booklets with Australian patterns on the market here...
Aussie's are inventive.... there's got to be someone who can make patterns like that?

wow .... you're kidding? I didn't know that?
Tried the link.... didn't work.......
I just received a catalog from "The wooden Teddybear" ( also in the US)... don't know anything about their shipping or reputation, but their catalog has nice things in it and not any more expensive then wildwood.

I have bought patterns from The wooden Teddybear and no problems with them, but I live in the USA.

Its not solely a problem for scrollers or their patterns... Ive tried to get veneers from the states and some either refuse to even consider the option and others will jack up the cost of freight to make it so I walk away either way they dont have to bother... but sometimes by checking around and keeping on asking BEFORE you pay!! you find someone whos genuine and gives you the honest postage costs... and that person is worth being a good customer to!!
This is how I buy anything ex USA... Ive got 2 people over there I buy veneers from and theyre bloody brilliant the rest Ive contacted (probably about 20 now) have done the above or ignored me totally.. so I stick with the 2 I have and give prompt payment and they give me great service
Moral... CHECK!! everything you can BEFORE you agree to purchase!!Believe me there IS life beyond marriage!!! Relax breathe and smile learn to laugh again from the heart so it reaches the eyes!!
