Hi everyone

I am halfway through a bathroom renovation and and currently constructing a tiled shower base. Its on a concrete slab.

Now my original plan for constructing the base was as follows ....

1.Install a puddle flange with the flange top 25mm above the concrete base.

2.Place a bed of cement on the slab creating a gradient from the edge of the shower into the puddle flange

This is where I'm at at the moment (see picture)

3.Next plan was to place a 200um plastic membrane on top of the morter bed and extend this membrane up the walls. The plastic membrane will be terminated down into the flange outlet.

4. Place another 25mm of cement on top of the plastic membrane, maintaining the gradient of the lower bed of cement.

5. Tile the floor

Now my issue is that my shower floor is rising up by about 60mm+ including tiles, and the hob will need to be about 50mm above this. So its creating quite a step into the shower.

Can I get away with putting down a rubber type membrane directly onto the first cement bed as shown in the photo.

To me it seems possible that I could paint a waterproof membrane onto the cement base and extend it up the walls and into the puddle flange. I could then tile directly on top of the rubber membrane.

I have a tub of "Aqua Tite" and some "Crommelin" polyester waterproofing bandage. Will this do the job.

Thanks in advance for any advice

Mike
