Carbatec's new Dovetail Eurojig
Hi Peoples,
Has anyone looked at/purchased/used the new Carbatec Eurojig?
I want to get a jig shortly, and am tempted by the Grifkins (have Triton router and table), but his jig is really designed for through dovetails only.
The Eurojig appears to 'have it all' at a mid-range price - half blind (standard), extra for through and finger joint templates. Probably around $500-$600 all up for the lot (600mm).
But then this is only $200 shy of the Leigh ... (without finger joint template) ... is the Leigh worth it for the extra $$'s?
I tend to have a policy of NOT buying second best for it always seems to come back and bite me in the bum ... (eg 10" compound saw instead of 12" sliding compound). Should I hold out and save a little more for the Leigh. I read the review in Australian Woodworker (#41) but I have a so so feeling about the reviewer's recommendations.
Thanks in advance

Burn,
I just purchased the Leigh jig and am playing with it at the moment. The manual is the absolute best, complete detailed step by step instructions for all joints. Great video as well.
The first thing I made was a through dovetail box to mount the jig on with a sliding dovetail joint for centre support. Just magic.
Currently putting up some shelves in shed, thought I could do with some little drawers, so out with instructions for half blind and made 12 drawers (dovetailed front back) - about 1/2 a day.
It's a well made piece of hardware.
Gordon.

Hi Gordon
How much did you pay for the Leigh all up?
Did you get any extra combs, and did you buy it local or OS?
Cheers, Allan

Allan,
Purchased from MIK when they were having their Web sale (15% off). So it was around $725.00.
Just purchased the 'basic' unit. Later I ordered some guide bushes to suit a Bosch router I purchased. Great router by the way (GOF1300), guide bushes 'clip' in and router fine adjustment actually moves router up/down - perfect for Leigh jig.

Eurojig
I have just purchased the Euro jig through MIK.
Was led to this model via reviews in AWR. Also had to purchase the base plate & centering bit as they are apparently manufactured to fit Hitachi/Dewalt routers.
after finally setting it all up (instructions average!) I proceeded to make many "set up" cuts. Took lots of mucking around and have found that "edge stops must be out of alignment as when dovetails are fitted together (drawers) timber edges are approx 1-1.5mm out of being flush! I can't understand it and am finding it frustrating. I have a Gifkins unit and love it however, I don't want through dovetails on these drawers.
Rang Carbatec direct for faulty part replacement three weeks ago and still not seen/heard a thing!
Bottom line is that I wouldn't recomend it from my experience however if anyone can help me to overcome this drama, I would very much appreciate it.
(considering getting a bush to slide over edge stop with greater outside diameter to overcome problem)
Good luck.

I think I'll save me pocket money and get the Leigh, the Leigh looks too easy, maybe thats why they are dearer.
