Default Cutting lap joints with GMC1200

    Hi Everyone,

I am new to routing therefore excuse my questions if they sound silly. I was cutting few lap joints on oregon, and using CMT long series (50mm) straight cutter to do that. Half way through, cutter came out of the collett twice. In the first I realised before anything happened, however in the second I realised too late and my lap joints become 5 mm deper than they were intended. Following are the questions:
Is this normal? How can it be fixed?
How can I fix the 5mm excess depth so that I do not waste the timber?
Finally, during the cutting, I was using 5-6 speed adjustment of the router which was fine until to a certain point, where I had to reduce the speed to 1, becuase the router did not cut at all. I am assuming it is becasue of the grain structure of the timber. What do you do under this circustances? (I was cutting 5mm at each pass). All the answers will be highly appreaciated.

    Cheers
    Sam

I'm not quite sure of the speed range of that router but a 50mm bit should be only running at about 16,000 - 18,000 rpm. Dont know if this was your problem.

    Hi Termite,

Thanks for the quick feedback. The manual says the router has a no laod speed from 8000 to 31500 rpm. I did mainly use 4 most of the time, however when I increased to 6 the cutting became smother and clean. That was the reason why I used 6.
