Flush trimming with my laminate Trimmer
Guys and Gals,
After some advice.....
I started building a crosscut sled for my TS today...the one in the Table saw fundamentals book...anyway as part of that I need to make a 19mm dado, which means that I need to make a 19mm zero clearance insert (still with me?) as I havent done a 19mm dado before.....
So I cut some blanks and have a brain wave...rather than using my normal hand held router I will use my laminate trimmer and the flush trimming bit....
Well the blanks are 12mm MDF....and to say it was problematic would be an understatement...lots of burnt mdf...I that there was also some issue with a slght gap between the template and the blank that cause it to jump...
Now am I asking too much of the laminate trimmer (500w ryobi).....
I'm inclined to think that I am.......

Burn would indicate a blunt bit.
You can do pretty well anything with a small router if the amount of material to be removed on each pass is appropriate to the capabilities of the machine/bit.
Patience dear boy, patience.

I stick the master template to the bland using carpet tape. You dont need any more pressure than that. Wont compensate for bad bits though, I do them on the router table but if I were to do it with a hand held router i would use my trimmer. I cut them pretty close to size anyway.
I never make mistakes, I thought I did once but I was mistaken
