Router Bit Extraction - Tip
Hi Everyone,
Router Bits do not always just fall out once I have loosened the collet nut. Using a rag can mean the bit slices through the rag and then my fingers. Putting on leather gloves is probably the best solution but the hassle of taking them on and off means I sometimes default to using a rag. But the other day I could not find either and I grabbed a green kitchen scourer I think "Scotchbrite" was the first but now there are no end of clones. Scourer holds bits more securely, protects fingers and are much cheaper than a pack of band aids.
Cheers

Try pushing the bit in before trying to pull it out, it releases the bit from the collet.

Are you loosening the collet nut all the way? Modern routers with collets that click into the nut have to be 'undone' twice; once to undo the nut and then it will catch again on the lip of the collet and pull it out of the taper in the spindle.
Even then, the bit should never just fall out; a properly sized collet will have a nice slip fit on the shank of the bit.
