    Default Triton TRA 001

What is the Reliability on the TRA 001 Router . I see many people like this router because of it's above table bit changing feature , but what is it's reliability like. I have a Makita 3612 C and am making a new table with an INCRA Multi Lift and was wondering if there would be any advantages in fitting a Triton TRA 001. My Son-in-Law has one and he was disappointed in it, he says it does"nt have the power of the Makitas and it vibrates like hell when under load, he has thrown it under the bench and reconds that i am mad if i look at buying one,He uses his in a large NC table that he makes signs on, but i like the above table feature , What are your thoughts on this matter

I've had my Triton TRA001 for nearly eight years now and I've got nothing but praise for it. I've worked it hard during that time, mostly in a table, but with some hand-held use as well. If it "vibrates like hell when under load," it's been damaged. It copes with the largest horizontal panel-raising bits I've got with ease.

There are no advantages to fitting a Triton in an Incra Mast-R-Lift. To use both is simply a waste of the Incra.

My TRA001 review is here and my maintenance and dismantling page is here if it helps.

    Ray.

    Default Just the opposite

I am a long time makita fan and had good use from the 3612C but found it tiersome to adjust (even after adapting with a through the plate adjuster). The Triton replacement is the best router I have worked with and in the bench mode is fast, accurate and a real pleasure to use.
I weould get the Triton checked out as a simple bearing replacement may get you a brilliant solution.

There is little argument that the TRA 001is by far the best designed router for in-table use.
However the few Triton routers that are still available for purchase (on E-Bay) carry no warranty.Spare parts are currently not available and there is considerable doubt that these will become available in the future.
I have experienced problems with the TRA001 electronics (presumably related to dust despite use of vacuums). The on /off switch was first to fail (eventually repaired using the last,or so I was informed, switch in Christendom) and now the speed controls have failed making the router speed up and slow down spontaneously while routing.
I am therefore looking at alternatives of which there are very few. I have posted separately in this forum requesting the opinions of other members in regard to Makita and Hitachi used in combination with add-on collet extensions and above table lifting devices.
    Cheers

Thank you all for responding to my post. Because of the availability of the Triton and the spare parts problem, I'll stick with my Makita 3612C and look at the Xtreme Xtension to overcome the bit changing problem, it's a bit cheaper , but not much, at $147 with postage, it's bloody expensive.
