    Default Cyclones again

Has anyone had any experience with clearvue cyclones?
Would love to hear if they work well

they are meant to be great but not really financially viable to purchase because they are only available from the US

They were designed using Bill Pentz's design/advice , so I'd imagine they should be a good design... and have the cool factor being clear.
The "Woodwhisperer" has one(I think), fire him a email.

The killer would be the freight cost from USA, its a bulky item. It wouldn't surprise me if was cheaper to get one made of metal here in AUS(using BP's designs).

Why don't you contact Hugh Reid, a member of this forum, who looked into this type of cyclone in January 06.

He may have further experiences to tell you about them.

    Peter.
Going by the details in their User Profiles and Birth dates on both Hugh Reid & hugh reid2, they're both the one and same person.
    Cheers

I noticed the similarity in names but thought that was a coincidence.

Yeah, it is me, lost my password and changed my email address, so it was easier to start again.
I looked into it in 06 and the killer was freight, so i made one from Galv and bought a 15" blower and housing from Ed at clearvue (they could be posted and still worked out way cheaper than anybody in aus) - he is a great bloke to deal with.
So anyway, i bought an enourmous heavy duty 3hp motor and made an 20" cyclone

(for sale cheap if anyone is interested) and found that with the big motor i only had about 20" underneath it, and needed enough flexyhose to be able to get the lid off so there was about enough room for a large bucket of sawdust, then i made an 18" cyclone so i have enough room for a small trash can, just.....
The cyclones are riveted and siliconed but it sure does suck!!!
I spent more than 3 months chasing filters, because all the suppiers kept telling me that i didn't want to do that, and that their filters weren't suitable, and torret DCE flat out refused to sell them to me (?) so i knocked a whole in the wall

and had 20 felt socks made up with a tin can at the bottom of each one to catch dust

(cause about 10 min of planing fills the can)

I'm not real happy about the separation, with it not being totally round and all , and having the bags outside means that the neighbours get alot more noise, so i though I'd ask again, what with the cheast pains, permanent flu like symptems and REALLY GOOD EXCHANGE RATE!!!!!!

I see he now does a 14", put a 16" fan and a 5hp motor and there's still room for a real dust bag!!!

I've been emailing back and forth with Bill recently. The 14" cyclone including 16" blower with a 5hp 3 phase motor was ~$2,300 delivered to Sydney including freight GST and duty. The filters are ~$250 each and you need at least two of them. All up approx $2800 - $3000. The blower housing and blower are manageable but still expensive.

Hmmmmmmmmm, compared to 3hp from carbatec with "1300 cfm" and a suspiciously unspecified filtration for $2395, but with a remote control. It's in the same ballpark, still wanna talk to someone who has one.
Meantime i have a few ideas to try so i'm not swimming in dust to empty the bin

Have you tried putting a plastic bag in the bin?

Can't remember where I read it, but someone suggested using a sheet of laminate as a spring holder to keep a plastic bag held against the bin.
