I used the 4" BMH today while routing hinges on the bench. It collected every skerrick. The setup is the same other than the BMH. The difference was incredible.
The same pipe also is moved to clean the bandsaw. It collected most of the dust, even though the "solution" is to simply jam the hose under the table. Again, a significant improvement in collection.
If I could, Id order another 4" and cut the top off so it could be mounted closer to the underside (if that will make a difference?)
Best $20 Ive spent in a while!

Adding a vent to the side of my 10" jointer cabinet in the next few days, little bit unsure how large the opening should be. Bought the one in the picture below but it takes up too much space for the amount of airflow it provides.
I'm actually toying with the idea of just cutting a hole in the side of the cabinet and then welding some mesh over the opening, would mean I don't need to rely on the vent sizes at Bunnings. If I did this I'd cut around a 100mm x 50mm opening. How does this sound?
Edit: I'll be putting a 6" BMH on the cabinet outlet.

Here's the sketch I did for the new chute and vent. I'm going to attempt to have the outlet BMH angled into the chute so it gets better airflow as well.

I've tested those vents - they are not very effective and only let about 200 CFM through.
I'd use mesh - not too fine - something like 1" square?

Seeing as the previous video worked so well though you might like to see this one.
~2000 rpm, dry Sheoak.
6" BMH, >950 CFM of flow.
Note how the air flow drags the dust generated from the work piece, even when generated at the ends of the piece, almost immediately along the work piece to the centre line of the flow.
That's because a BMH takes more of its air from in front of the mouth, compared to a naked duct which tries to drag some air from the sides and even some from behind the hood.

You mean the total size of the opening or the mesh
For the mesh think "4 year old hand"

Wow that really pulls the dust away! How many pieces of sandpaper has it gobbled up?

A very impressive demonstration on how the dust flows Bob. As Smarty90 said, I would put a bit of mesh over the opening to save some of the shaping paper being gobbled up, it happens so quickly!
Many thanks for all the work you put into these forums.
