An interesting article by Rod Cole, basically saying that to get a dust explosion you need very specific conditions that in a small home workshop just don't occour at all or very rarely, we are more likely to get hit by lightning, it confirms my experience with my little drama https://www.woodworkforums.com/f200/w...-there-135446/
I have done a few shutdowns at the Gladstone power station, one was on the Burner Front, this is where the pulverized coal is fed into the bolier via the burner tube, was quite interesting to discover that they can't/don't light the powdered coal at first instance, first they light an LPG gas lance from a spark, then from that they light a diesal lance and then when all that's going they introduce the air/coal mix which then ignites and burns, from this it can be seen that it is quite difficult to get an air/solid fuel mix at correct proportions to ignite especially when travelling at velocity as said by Rod Cole, also interesting in the article was that the bin is the most likely place for a fire to start generated by say a hot metal spark, (an experience some members have experienced first hand), one of the things that was foremost in my mind at the time of my incedent and the main reason I did not turn off my DC at first instance, the bin is more likely to go up when the DC is not long turned off.

replacement hose dustie
hi guys, again sorry for the delay in replying . yeah big mel i was thinking i might use a antistatic line anyway but the pvc seems to be i think the best way to go and as BOBL said and per all the posts i do intend using 6inch in a long run overhead in my factory. it is bloody frightening PJT about the fire i have seen what can happen with a welding spag i thought everything was fine went up for tea did not realise a bit had gone onto one of the welding gloves went back down and was alight so now i do not take chances. i will look up that site and phone on monday and see what they can do as i want more for the feed downs from my long run pvc 6inch overhead. i am going to try and use a expander from 4inch of my machines to 5inch up to the 45bends from overhead i know you can buy reducers so i expect i should be able to go the other way. i am putting blast gates in just below the 45 bends to each machine i think this will work, i have yet to price some galvanised ducting it might work out cheaper than 6inch pvc. cheers peter
