Ian what do you use to cut the abalone sheet with? Does it cut clean or will the edges crumble or chip? Is there a show side and a bond side or are both sides polished? Does it bend equally in any direction or is there a "grain" to it?
Four times thanks for indulging the questions.

Pete it cuts well with a new craft / staple style knife or even very sharp small Japanese scissors it has a show side and an adhesive side the flexible sheet is not polished but the clear resin gives it the shine there is a grain wrong word there but it’s not a random assembly of pieces blow up the photo and you will see it. I would orientate it long ways. I will try to do a tube tomorrow so I have a photo but with no feeling in either hand that might be fun bloody MS

That's a nice offer Ian but the postage might sting a little. My wife Marla is the caster in the house. She casts feather blanks that she sells through a few companies. I've shown a few pens I've made using them in the past here. She also does Japanese paper blanks and occasionally when we have grown and dried some Pansy flowers, casts them. She wrote an article about casting the Japanese paper for the American Association of Woodturners, August 2017 issue of their magazine. If you can't get ahold of the issue, PM me with your email and I'll send you a PDF.

Probably related -but probably brittile as all whatever - extreme heat compliance and bendibility RARELY meet. Mica probably involved in both -bonding will be completely different.
