    Default Cabernet Sauvignon Vine casts

I scored some old Cabernet Sauvignon Vines from Clare Valley off another forumite Lindsay . They were old and cracked but looked perfect for casting into pepper grinder blanks and pen blanks. I cut them to length and pulled off the really loose bark and found a heap of ants that I then tried to remove. The timber colour looked a lot like olive and even smelled a bit like olive. I then used some Scarlet Red translucent dye with casting epoxy to cast two pepper grinder blanks and a some pen blank slabs with the leftover resin. I must admit a few ants were also cast in

Here's the pepper grinder blanks. The timber can be seen through the resin, the red colour where it is only a few mm thick

and the pen blank slabs cut into individual pen blanks that shows the timber better

No time to turn any before I head off on my next trip, but I may take them with me, to use for demos etc

They should look fantastic when finished Neil. Always like the dark red as the casting medium.
