My new larger vacuum chamber
I got the 15mm acrylic chamber made with then added the pipework/gauge and foam seal. My old one was 117x140x133H internal, this one is 140x140x250H internal, so i can stack the blacks either and in a few more layers .
I hope to test it tomorrow.Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

Put it to the real test today, doing croc jaw blanks, 36 at a time (6 layers of 6 blanks) . Could have added a few more layers too

@dai sensei,
Is there any particular reason to use a clear chamber except to watch for foam rising to the evacuation tube? I was wondering if an open container in a pressure pot plumbed for a vacuum would work? Am I going down a dead end?___

I use the clear just so I can see the bubbles, and how high the foamy mix rises. At full vacuum initially the bubbly foam can rise 300mm , it is amazing how much air can come out of blanks, and you sometimes then have to back off the vacuum. I used to do vacuuming inside my pressure pot, inside another container, and wondered why it always had resin in the bottom of the pot and little left in the container.

Perhaps a series of screens would keep the foam down by disrupting the surface tension of the bubbles. Take a peek at my post in this thread. I think I'll add a few layers of screen to the foam basin to see if that helps with the foam issue. It'll be a couple weeks before I can get it all put together.

Good luck with the foam catch. Windows would work, just need to ensure they do not compromise your pressure vessel. You need some sort of visibility otherwise you will not know when done, although you could just eave it there for a few hours to make sure, although it depends on your elevation and vacuum pump (ie what pull you can get).

Ian ,I saw Neil today,and he has a bit on his plate to finish off for a Sunday start to his travels rest assured that he will be well loaded with choice castings and other stuff , early on he will have lots of goodies for sale hehe, I got a couple of his croc jaw casts for a customer , the main reason for not selling generally is he is still putting together a work in progress and how to do these blanks ,just ran out of time ,but it will happen
Cheers ~ JohnG'day all !Enjoy your stay !!!
