Way around adjustable feet
Hi all
Just built a MDF topped utility table, made it to go against the saw or router tables to give me extra room and support, but as the two are at different heights I had to make the feet adjustable, so I came up with an easy solution. As long as you have basic welding skills it shouldnt be to hard, I used 70 X 35 pine studs to make the legs, its only a basic table so didnt need to get fancy, to make them adjustable I used some 40 x 40 gal RHS. Using a small cut off wheel on a 4 inch grinder I cut one side off the RHS making it a channel, then drilling a hole in the bottom side large enough to take an adjustable foot with a 1 1/2 inch adjustment range. 2 wittworth nuts to suit, one welded inside the channel, the other just above the foot to lock it in place once adjusted. To hold it to the leg I used 2 wittworth nuts and bolts through the channel and leg. Before placing the channel over the end of the leg, I drilled an 18mm hole 20mm deep into the end of the leg to accomodate the welded nut inside the channel, and a further 13mm hole approximately 50mm deep for the thread of the foot. They seem to work well and stand up to being dragged across the floor if I need to move the table. I will add pics as I get chance if anyone is interested.
