I've seen them in the tool section (a while ago now), back left-hand corner. The best thing about a place like Bunnies is that you just ask at the big desk and they'll be able to tell you what you need to know in seconds, they also answer questions over the phone.

Unfortunately what you get at your local Bunnings depends a lot on the managers, who are often a bunch of toe rags. If the staff are also being a bunch of losers, that suggests to me that the manager is treating them like excrement, so they treat the customers the same way. If Bunnings is your only choice, perhaps because you have a gift card to use, then I suggest looking for one of the old baldy guys who might remember what service is, and show him the colour of your money/gift card, so he knows you are not just trying to waste his time.

If Bunnings is NOT your only option, I'd suggest a trip on the train (or ask the parent unit to drive you) to Auburn and visit Carbatec. They definitely do stock woodworking vises in several grades - house brands plus Record, Dawn and Lee Valley. A bit further away you could go to McJing on the Hume Highway at Yagoona (also near a railway station) who have a large range of Chinese vises in both wood and metal working styles.

Just be aware that a visit will result in severe tool lust, and they all do 'mail order'.

Bunnings sell the Dans wood working vice. I'm not sure they sell other brands. The Dans is not a precision piece of kit. Depending on your budget you might be better getter a slightly more expensive but better quality brand.

Wouldnt call them awesome but they are useful.......and they are a business, how can they afford to tell any customer to 'f off'?

Try using the phone, that's if you ever want to shop there again, I wouldn't.

What ever vise you end up thinking of buying it is best to play with it as much as possible. You may not be able to check for square etc but do play with it.

I personally do not have one as yet just using the odd G clamp in various combinations.

    Thumbs up

Have a look in places like SuperCheap Auto and some of the other big Auto spare parts stores. They often have WW equipment.

Try some of the second hand places around Sydney too. There was a marvelous place at Shea's Creek called Tony Carr's Junkyard. Had alsorts of great stuphph at good prices - Even fire engines!!!

    Hi Diemen

The current issue of Wood Review, perhaps the best woodworking magazine in Australasia, has just published a review of woodworking vises in the latest issue. Your local library might have it.
    www.woodreview.com.au
Besides its analysis of the vises, it also tells you how to check out a vise - very useful. Its very important that the vise works smoothly and reliably - you have seen the comments on this forum where quick release facilities didn't work properly.

And the craftsmen made tools in the magazine are awesome - Derek Cohen who often contributes to this forum won a prize.

    Cheers

    Graeme
