i used a c/d 12mm to build mine this worked well for the top but the leg pieces develop quite a bend on them and are being redone in 17mm c/d

AC hoop pine.

I asked Ron Paulk who replied stating he uses AC grade and doesn't know if its structural or non-structural.
I'm thinking since he's using festool he doing well enough not to have to think about the expense.
Where AC plywood is his "go to" no hesitation standard for his work.

plywood in the states is cheap as chips compared to here

Any regrets for anyone who built this using the 1/2" instead of 3/4" for the very top panel?

I'm thinking of using 3/4" for the top.

well I'll be building a few more of them plus a few of his other projects and I'm using 17mm for all of them.

EDIT: BTW, structural just means it has an 'F' rating for construction work, I don't think what you're doing needs you to spend the extra dollars on it.

you could try tile importers in Oakleigh they often have seconds I've bought boards from them with edge and corner damage

I made a 12mm Paulk-type bench, but a single unit rather than two pieces (around 2200x1100). The intention was for it to be able to be lifted by one person, but that's only just barely the case. In the end I bolted on some heavy duty stands with castors, and it works perfectly in my shop.

Here are a few thoughts:

- I don't have any qualms about using 12mm; my bench is very sturdy, and I regularly throw big cabinets on it, jump on it etc. Having said that, if you can afford the cost and weight of 18mm, do it!

- I would definitely not be using construction grade ply which will be twisted and warped in every way, full of voids etc, and rough. You need something you can make into a nice flat surface, that won't snag on workpieces, and is generally pleasant to use.

- You could check prices with In2Ply in Carrum Downs. I'm pretty sure I got the material for mine from the Heidelberg Mitre 10, who have a small selection of reasonable hardwood ply. Not sure if that goes for all More 10s.

OK some decisions.

Won't be transporting.
Other than moving/wheeling from the garage to the driveway car port toward the front or toward the back under the kitchen car port.

So fixed frame on wheels moving over brickwork.

Took some measurements on the current single car garage.
Leaving current 2x4 shelving on one side and work bench on the other.

The 4' x 8' for the Total Station would fit nicely.

Just wondering if 2' clearance on either side is enough room to work and move wheel burrow and large bins thru?
On wheels it could move to one side and leave 4' clearance on one side.
