Record vice
Hi all
I have just acquired a Record 53 QR vice at the right price. Very good nick except for the rails?
The rods/rails/support rails (I don't know what they are called) where rusted beyond repair. The rest of the vice is perfect, just the rails gone. Even the QR mechanism is 100%
The bloke that had it cut the rails off with the intention of replaceing them with stainless ones, which is what I'll be doing.
My question is. How are the rails/rods attached to the fron of the vice. Looks like they might have been peened or similar?
We are going to mill ou the remainder of the rod, but it would be good to know how they where originally fitted so the replacements can be fitted as the originals where.
Any ideas appreciated. If you find you have dug yourself a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging.
I just finished child-proofing our house - but they still get inside.

OK, finally found out the offending items are called the guide rods.
Anyone have any idea how they might be held to the jaw of the vice.
