Thread: Inside my (very) old shed.

Well I've finally scrounged through the 6,000 odd pics on my computer and come up with a few that shows how my old termite infested shed was transformed into a luxury termite hotel!
I've done my best to eliminate the little buggers, especially where the extensions were added, we coated everything in sight with sump oil. Hopefully this will deter the little shed wreckers,but if anything ever catches on fire, that old oil is sure gonna help....NOT!
One problem I'm having with my new iMac and it's new version of iPhoto is the new format. I just can't quite get my head around it and the help file is bloody useless, probably because of my satellite connection.
Anyhow, I'll have some pics up by this time tomorrow arvo, after my daily sawdust session in said shed.
The new horizontal router table stand is now complete and now all I have left to do is a bit more finessing before I get the table top ready.

I will only post a few pics at a time, because I'm not sure what will happen or how many I can post in one fell swoop.
If at anytime this journey of my shed's development and the accompanying pics become a boring subject, then I will cease and desist if requested to do so, but until then I shall post away merrily.
Seeing these old pics bring back fond memories of good times, and living in my little world, fond memories are like gold to me.

I'm getting a little ahead of myself here, but while I was taking a few pics for another posting today, I took a couple of my "other" room.

When we first bought the place and saw the inside of the shed for the first time, you could say I was a little taken aback. Maybe it was all those noisy termites picking their teeth.
What I found when I was actually able to get into this room made me want to turn around and run!. Guess I was lucky I had buggered knees, otherwise I'd never have gotten this far.
This room I think was actually their bathroom at one stage. The was NO floor.....or bearers .....or joists....just dirt and termite crap. Of course that's only the parts I could see. The rest was under the rubble that was once a "bathroom".....I think.
Even the rabbits and wombats were using this room as a short cut to various other escape routes.
Anyhow...it's been rebuilt, quite literally from the ground up. One board at a time. There are no classy Stegbars here, just good old second had windows of every make and material possible....I used whatever would fill the hole. Actually one of the longer windows in the 'main' room, is the shower door from the bathroom in the old house.....and yes I'm still using that shower today...minus the door.
Ok...no more waffling on. Pictures please Maestro.
BTW, the pic with the wood lathe in it, is looking back into this room from the 'main' room. The protective "screen" mounted to the window behind the lathe is actually one of the shelves from an old fridge that was left here.
I tend to use whatever I can get my hands on at the time that will do the job. One thing is for sure, and that is you'll never see my shed in any fancy magazine! It does have good ventilation though. Now if I can just get those rusty roofing sheets replaced.

While reading this and looking at the images, I had a quiet chuckle to myself.
My shed is a bit like yours - the place where old TV's and boom boxes go to die .......
I was re-building some chairs for friends this afternoon when I looked about the shed and noticed that it had shrunk

actually there's an idea - see if you can get a shed makeover team in to fix it up - I think it's called man cave these days ... dunno what's wrong with "The Shed!"

Exactly! You've hit the nail right on the proverbial head my friend. I think you'll find in one of the earlier pics of my wall mounted drill bits and drill press bench, that above the drill bits is a fine example of an old boom box that has been given a nice place to live out its life.

Also I thank you all for your encouraging compliments. You've given me the confidence to be happy with my lot no matter what its condition or how humble my old shed's previous existence may have been.
BTW, the termites said to give you all a big hug too.

Cheeky buggers

I thought I'd throw a few more of the pre-reno pics in to give a bit more perspective to the shed and its less than humble beginning. These 'before' pics should give a better reference as to the condition of my "Shed" before it finally transitioned from a once ugly duckling into the now mangey old swan it is today.

As you will see from one of the pics, I had actually started using, what we lovingly call the "aircraft hanger", before the shed became more or less useable and worth spending time and effort on turning it into a better prospect for its intended usage.
In the meantime I naturally had to "pretty up" the place by doing some gardening. So apart from having a huge fire one night to burn down the prickly pear "forest" outside, I also built my own "beer garden" to relax after a hard day's work. It's funny that my son is the only one seen drinking with his feet up.

The "hanger" is one of those old half round corrugated iron sheds that look more like a long water tank cut in half. Also, the fact that I was more prepared to use it, with it's dirt floor as opposed to the shed in those early days, might give you a better impression of just how bad the shed was to begin with. I also threw in a pic of their original "bathroom" which I think I mentioned earlier, had no floor, just wabbit and wombat poop. It's now the room with the timber racks on the walls in an earlier pic.

So there's not really much more I can add to the story until I get into to the inside clean-up and eventually, the knock 'em down and build it 'em up again pics of the new walls and more space to play in.
I shall now retreat to my corner and wait for the bell to toll for the next round.
