Thread: My little shed

Jim,

some clearer Pic's of what I currently work with, as you can see in these Pic's the benches are all mix and no match , all different ht's and widths.

The proposed plan will have all the same Ht, and width. and I will have power to all tools , and lights above each also.

While the shed is 3Mt x 3Mt's I think this will give me the best usable space to work in.

Jeff I had a a shed like that years ago it soon became kids storage

Like the little lathe looks very interesting especially the upright bit

The little LATHE is an EMCO UNIMAT 3 , it's about 30 years old and works perfectly, very useful for small bushes and parts.

Thats what I thought it might be

the verticial bit is the support for the drill / fly-cutting attachment. it will also do light milling .
It is a very useful machine , I had thought of selling it at 0ne time, but wisely decided not to.

That is the first time I have ever seen a shed like yours with a wooden floor. Much easier on the legs than a concrete slab. Ventilation is essential in these and you have attended to that as well.
I had a dead rat in my shed back in the autumn and I couldn't find it and couldn't stand the smell, so I worked outside in the sun.
It was fantastic - I had forgotten how lovely it could be. You also have that opportunity with so much space nearby.
Looks like paradise.

Don't forget to leave an even covering of wooddust over everything - stops SWIMBO saying " could you just put this in there for a while" - works for me!!
PS why only 3 x 3m? you've got stacks of room? looking good though.

Well I cannot afford anything bigger for a while, I am looking for a second 1 to join on to the 1st one that will give me 6x3mt ,

My aim is to eventually replace the smaller tools (band saw )with larger one's .

For the moment it works and I will expand as i can afford to, my wife and I are getting into pyrography, so will need the space,one day.

Thanks for taking the trouble to do that.
You've given me a couple of ideas around problem areas I had.

1. Timber floors.
Why didn't I think of that?
You see, I have almost the identical shed already, but it's full of junk that has to live somewhere.
My plan has always been to move this tin job to beside the house to store the junk, then build a proper timber framed shop on the existing 3mtr x 3mtr slab.
Trouble is, I can't get up the side with a wheelbarrow and there's a bit of a slope so the amount of concrete would be a fair bit. But a timber floor would do the trick.

2. The other one was the little verandah roof you have.
By extending that idea by building a proper roof say the size of the shed again, I could use outdoor space. I've got a couple of cedar doors that I could mount as french doors and put my tablesaw just inside that door. Open the doors and I've got an outfeed area I could use.

So, thanks again.
I just might be able to pull this off afterall.

Just a thought - if you are going to add another shed, you might like to separate the two with a space of the same size, and have the doors from each shed facing each other across this space. When funds permit, put a carport type skillion roof across the space and you will have three times the area if you count the covered breezeway. This between area would be good for painting and spraying and finishing of all kinds, where you need air circulation, as well as jobs that need lots of space.

Thanks guy's glad that I could give insperation to others, .

I used t&g hardwood flooring I got cheap, and the floor is set on 3"x2" with 70x35 treated hardwood 400mm centers . This is solid with no bounce , or vibration even with out of balance timber on the lathe, so I am Happy with it overall.

Well , I found some room in the SHED, , I tossed out the Swivel chair, and cleaned out the last of the radio gear(HAM radio).

This allowed me to get rid of an old crate I had used for storage,
Then I moved the Wood Lathe down to the door, and the Grinder to next to the headstock of the lathe, for easy sharpening of tools.

The next job is to replace all the benches , to make the small space work properly, I will post some Pic's soon.

Ross it wasn't a problem back then hide n seek I'd hide them and lock the door they had to seek me to get out.
