Which bandsaw foe making boxes?????
Hi Guys.
I am after some info please. I wish to make bandsaw boxes and don't know which bandsaw to buy. I will be running the 3/4 blade with a throat of 200mm.
I have a Carbatec 20" saw but is to big for this stuff.
Is the branded names better, Jet, Felder, Minimax, ETC?
I have a Kappa 550 Felder and think it is over rated however I don't have any real problems with it. Acept the sciber has decided to not come up all the way now. I will have to addjust it. The machine isn't even 12 months old. This is why I don't know about brand names.
I would also like to get a belt type sander for the boxes. Any ideas???? I think it should be wide. does it need to be adjustable 90 degrees up??
Regards Jamie

I use a Hare and Forbes BP16a ..... does the job but I don't have much to compare it to.
As for sanding I use a Shopsmith which provides disc and drum option, orbital disc sander and hand sanding.

The Blade.
Hi Jarrahrules,
I'm assuming you mean a 3/4 inch wide Blade. If so, I think that would be far to big, for Bandsaw Boxes.
I think most would use 1/4in. 6 teeth per inch Blade, or even a 3/8in. 6TPI. but even that is a bit big for getting around bends.
Sir Stinkalot makes some very nice B/S Boxes. Ask him a few more Questions.
There is a book by Tom Crabb on these Boxes. It is quite good as a reference.
Regards,
issatree.

Surprisingly I would recommend an el cheapo 14" chinese machine if you need another one.
Tune it well and they are a good machine.
You could try a smaller blade on the bigger machine. Max at C&S Saws could advise you. PHONE 03 9802 1040
There is a combined disc and linisher that is excellent as well. Page 30 in the Carbatec catalogue. Model no SBD-6012QC.
If you are up my way you can call in and have a play on the sander.

Thanks guys yes it is the small tight radius's that i want to do so the blade would have to be thin. I have a carbitec cataloge and will look them up. Just thought it best to find out from someone what was good and what isn't. 1/4 blade or smaller would be good.
how wide a linsher should i go. I do have a 250mm disc sander from Carbitec. I think it is 250, anyway its the biggest i could get.
I have a excalabor fret saw but it won't cut the thicker materials.

As stated, 3/4" is way to wide for curved work. I have used 1/8" and 1/4" inch, either will work for what you want. I would use nothing less than a 14" machine. You can make a lot of nice style boxes with a 6" rise but to expand your possibilities, a 12" rise would be nice.

thanks for the reply. Just need to find a reasonable brand. Sorry but i don't trust el cheapo ones. had a ozito drill and bent the shaft on the second job. As a tradesman the two year warrantee doesn't apply.
Have Felder saw and thicknesser but think they are over priced for what they are.
