She goes
Just fired up the new bandsaw after getting the power done today.
Well have only read stuff about how to set them up etc but it does seem to cut pretty well
have managed to cut a few strips of red gum form some scrap and have been quit pleased with the results seems to be not quite spot on started at about 2 mil and ended up at about 1 mil but for my first go I am pretty pleased
dont have a good square etc to set table at 90 degrees and not sure blade supplied is the best for the job either but still one happy camper
Now to get the dust extractor organized and start learning I can now see why they say they are such a good thing to have in the shop
regards

You don't need a square for this.
Set the table as square and you can and take a ~200 x 200 x 16 mm piece of MDF with one straight edge and holding the MDF upright with the straight edge on the table perpendicular to the blade make a shallow cut about half way (8 mm) into the MDF.
Rotate the piece of wood by 180º and now place the cut up against the back of the blade - if the table is square to the blade the back of blade should slot into the cut, if not, note how much out it is and make as close an adjustment to the table you can and repeat the cut - match -adjust until you get ir right. It doesn't take many goes to get it right.
Then keep the cut that slots in both ways and use that to set your table up thereafter.
I first saw this method on Alex Snodgrass' DVD of How to set up a BS (which BTW is really worth getting) but apparently the method has been around for many years.

That sounds great . It must be up for every task. Is the maximum cutting height of your bandsaw 28cm only?

No max height is 420mm according to the manual
I Havent tried that side of it out yet I have no doubt that it will handle the job easily though it has heeps of power(4hp)
