Im about to buy a bandsaw and seeing I was in Timbecon today I must say Im taken with the 18in BAS-470... but does anyone have one... is there anything I should know about them? good bad ugly? aside from the great price they are right now that is!
I will be returning to Timbecon on Friday to make the purchase of a few other things and would like advice views or other before then if possible?

Yeah I have one, I havent used it much yet and its my first BS so I cant comment against others.
Seems to be a good machine, its very quite while running thanks to the 2hp induction motor, has no vibrations with the heavy cast iron wheels/table and a solid one piece frame.
Comes with a reasonable fence and the dust extraction port works well.
Ive only used it for resawing jarrah and oregan so far, the blade only off'tracked by 1mm+/- on 150mm thick stock, replace the supplied blade(5/8" 5tpi)as its kicks out on the join(the cause of the 1mm+/-IMHO).
The plastic adjusting wheels/handles feel a bit cheesey and the on/off switch is cheap(could be fixed easily...), all in all IMHO its a very good machine for the price.
Got mine for the price of the SBW4300.
Oh and have fun moving it about as its a heavy bugga.......................................................................

Thanks Harry
I saw that shes a heavy buggar... mind here Im gonna have to get a trailer to get her home! cant get the canopy of the F100 Ive just bought from my brother!!
The worst weight prob I think is the damned 15in thicknesser! bloody eck theyre heavy mongrels!... mind here the new saw table is gonna be a buggar as well... and I had some wee probs movin the 8in jointer from the station wagon into the c-tainer yesty sooooo the weight thing is a bit of a prob! but mate once the sheds up and done and theyre in their new home they can be as heavy as the bloody like as they wont be movin far!
Thanks for the info mate... the guides seem okay from what I saw yesty... and Olly rang this arvo and the bandsaw is ready for pickup!! gawd am I gonna have a great day when this sheds up and doneBelieve me there IS life beyond marriage!!! Yep canopys can be stressfull when the bolts rust... you either cut the canopy or kill the paint job on the car!
Shed upgrade eh?
Me too, been putting up a lean'2 of the back of mine since I went shopping at Timbe's to fit it all in.
Brought a bas470, tsc10hb, 6" xtra'longbed jointer, db1248 sander(6x12") and various other bits and pieces.....................................................................

Now aint that Timbecon a great place to go shoppin? Me I got "stuck" with the bandsaw, 10HB saw, 8in Jointer, 15in thicknesser, Incra fence system, universal 6in surface grinder, msl 3815 lathe, FM-400 3hp dust extract, jap saws and various other thingys... gawd its hard isnt it? I have to wait 2 weeks for the table saw and big resaw blade for the bandsaw... Ive still got several other larger peices of machinery to get but the bulkier and pricier things are here {other than the mill which I havent decided which to get yet plenty of time}
Trouble for me at present is the fact that Ive only got a 40ft c-tainer as a workshop! the sheds ordered just waitin on the ruddy shire approval... ah well joys of movin eh! But I did find out today from an arborist fella that came avisiting that we have several Camphor Laurel trees along with several English Elm, Silky Oaks and Lemon gums along with various other "good woodworking trees" on this new 2 acre place we now call home!... brilliant! and some even need pruning!
Seems with this bandsaw the Incra fence system must be still reletively unknown in Aus since I posted a thread asking for reviews by others with it and no ones respondedBelieve me there IS life beyond marriage!!! Relax breathe and smile learn to laugh again from the heart so it reaches the eyes!!

What are you fitting the incra too?
Your not replacing the fence on the 10HB are you, as the fence that comes with it is very good already.
What "big resaw blade" did you get? Was it from Timbe's?
Those FM400's got plenty of suck eh, got one but its a blue one!....................................................................

Yes Harry Its going onto the 10HB ... I only saw the saw for a short time when I was there last wednesday and at the time was thinking more of the sliding table one next to it {got distracted as I do from time to time } and made my decision on Friday when I returned for the Bandsaw and other stuff but the buggars had sold it!! So it wasnt there to check out totally ... I think it was along the lines of the Beisemeyer fence wasnt it? not to worry mate I will put it on the other t/s that I have maybe it will help that cut straight cause sure as ***** the bent one that came with it didnt!... and before someone mutters "why didnt you take it back and exchange it?" I did say I get distracted!! Everytime I decided to toss the thing into the car and take it back something or someone distracted me! So Ive still got the ruddy thing!
I made the decision on the 10HB due mainly to its being a bit more rugged and that it has a triple belt system which I wanted after the single belt system the other mongrel has. The small time I spent checking out the saws at Timbe on Wednesday I thought the 10HB was excellent but Id been mumbling to myself about my "need" for a sliding table saw... when I returned on Friday I was informed that there was a sliding table attachment being made for the 10HB so that was it... done and done.
The Incra was because I have NO INTENTION of getting a peice of crap fence ever again! The Incra insures that I dont... If the other that comes with it is a good fence too then great! And onto the old saw with it and suddenly whallah! I'll be blessed with two table saws with two good fences!
I cant remember the blade mate but its about an 1 - 1 1/4in wide largest available from Timbecon for the 18in Bandsaw and they had to order it in... I need to resaw some timber I have... and I will need to saw some trunks into planks so a large resaw blade was needed.Believe me there IS life beyond marriage!!!
