I don't normally post links to live auctions, but I'll make an exception for this one.. catalogue is out later today for the Adair toolroom closing auction.

Tool Room Liquidation - AIDAIR Dandenong South

Huron Mills don't come around very often, Not familiar enough with Huron Models to id the NV4.. but knowing Gray's penchant for poor pictures and misleading misspelt descriptions it could be anything, there is also a Makino C-40 T&C ( described as a horizontal grinder? ) might be interesting to see what tooling it comes with and what price it goes for..

There's a few interesting bits of gear hiding there.... Don't think I'll be smashing the piggy bank just yet, but I'll keep the hammer handy.

Seem a bit random on this clause:
(This item will be loaded for transport by Machinery Relocations Australia. An Additional set removal price of $480 plus GST will be added to the purchase price for this lot)

Goes from over $1200.00 -120.00 and machines of what to be a similar size are close in fee??

Be careful you could forget about it and get slugged on what you thought was a good auction price!

Most of those loading prices seem fair enough, last machine I picked up at a Gray's auction cost me $300+ to get a hire forklift in for the job, some factories have a forklift available to load for free, or sling the driver $20 and he'll sort it. Nearly all require a JSA to be filled out before they will even let you start. It varies so much you just have to turn up with all the gear you think you'll need, chains, dunnage, straps etc. etc.. and be ready to hire what you don't have.. Easiest load set up I've seen was where they had an overhead gantry crane that covered the loading area, just lift and drop right onto a flat bed truck.... guess who turned up with a pantech?

If Machinery Locations do the JSA's I'd happily pay them

$1100+GST to load a pretty small surface grinder? Even I could get it to Ablury for the much! Go Grays!!!!

    Stuart

p.s. Looking at some of the other prices I'm thinking 1100 is a typo. more like $110.

The loading prices seem all over the place with no bearing on machine size..

A lot of the gear looks clean though and looked after to some extent...

My Deckel FP2LB was packed and transported by Machinery Relocations. They built a custom pallet for it and the spare head, table and tooling cabinet. That cost a few dollars but it cut down a lot on the area required for shipping from 5 to 6 pallets down to 4. For the 3,000km journey that saved quite a bit. The custom pallet lasted fairly well with one eye hook straightening under the load. It all got here ok though. I would be pretty happy to use them again.

Hi Ray, Grays do actually describe it as a NU4, and there is a pic of the machine plate with that model designator on it. It certainly looks like a nice machine.
I do agree that their loading fees are all over the place, with no mention of a compulsory loading fee for the fabricated welders bench or cast steel marking out table with magnetic vice, (both of which would weigh heaps) but $46 loading fee for a pissy Parken 1/2" drill press. Having said that, I would also agree that in general the loading fees are reasonable, if somewhat random, and if it meant that you didn't have to worry about all the red tape that they carry on with, it could be a bargain. I think that the fees will cost more than the item in some cases though.
If anyone from this group is attending for inspections, I have a couple of smaller items that I would appreciate a report on as to their apparent condition and completeness etc if it is possible. Well it's bedtime for me, goodnight all,
    Rob

    Hi Rob,
Yes you are correct, and it's a Huron NU4 . what had me confused was the sale-info, prior to the detailed catalogue being published described it as NV4, which didn't add up.
Nice looking mill, it will be interesting to see what it goes for.

Is it a homebrewed mod or a one off special from Waldown do you think Ewan? Having the large table area would be great for large items or for woodworking projects, where you may have long workpieces to handle.
The price looks good too, with the vice and morse taper drill bits and chucks etc thrown in.
    Rob

P.S. Point taken on the preliminary notice from Gray's on the Huron too Ray, I hadn't seen that. I still have no idea how they work the compulsory loading fee. I could understand their wish, even if I didn't agree that it was necessary to employ professionals do the heavy and awkward loads, but why small items like the 1/2" drill press were included while big and heavy loads like the cast iron marking out table and the slotted welders bench (both of which would have made great barbecues for today, once heated up) escaped their gaze. I spotted this Shaper on Ebay. I briefly considered it but already have 2 and can't spare the shed space! The price seems about right??
