Rotary table and other metalwork stuff-Guildford NSW
Had a look today, as it's 2klm from home. Both rotary tables have no name plates or locking levers.
He doesn't know what brand the mill is, thinks it's German, I couldn't find anything like it on Lathes.co.uk.
The vice on it is a Pratt Bernard 5" 2 speed HiLo.

Who wants a cheap cylindrical grinder

The price is probably a mistake.... They had it advertised elsewhere for $27 000.Light red, the colour of choice for the discerning man.

He's dreamin. Love to have it though. The Butler shaper I mean. Trying to figure out how the downfeed is driven. Never seen one like that.

Hi Bryan,
Yes i was thinking the same about the downfeed, compared to the rest of the machine it looks a bit rough. If it was driven off a rack it would depend on the stroke length as to how far it would go round, but getting drive up there would be a bit a of a nightmare The table looks pretty neat, it would be nice to be able to rotate it round 90 deg and have a flat surface or the end of the vice with no heavy lifting. 10hp.....and i thought my 5 was more than enough.......1915 17"x50" LeBlond heavy duty Lathe, 24" Queen city shaper, 1970's G Vernier FV.3.TO Universal Mill, 1958 Blohm HFS 6 surface grinder, 1942 Rivett 715 Lathe, 14"x40" Antrac Lathe, Startrite H225 Bandsaw, 1949 Hercus Camelback Drill press, 1947 Holbrook C10 Lathe.

Butler downfeed - my guess.
The back end has a T slotted wheel (much the same as a cross feed) so that is supplying a back and forth motion to the doover at the front, having a ratchet again like a cross feed. I'm suspecting that the down feed nut for the head is mounted in a skew gear (thrust bearings top and bottom to eliminate backlash) and the shaft coming from the front doover has the other gear of the pair. End result is that every return stroke the ratchet turns the shaft a fraction of a turn, which the gear pair turns into a fractional rotation of the down feed nut (and so winds the head down).

Michael, that makes sense for the front, but I meant how is the slotted wheel driven? It appears to be mounted to the ram.
