Surface grinders seem to always get less on Grays (based on five recent sales) than ebay. That Power grinder sold for about the value of the chuck. I wonder if the LTQ auction went so well because every lot was undamaged and in calibration? A very clean and organised facility always speaks well about the condition of the goods, too.

It is always nicer to see clear photos of the gear than a shot of a machine under 30 years of stuff piled all around and over it.
That torque wrench should help keep the aft end tight alright.
    Cheers from Micheal.

I like this one myself -
Targe Surface Grinder 612, 1988, without table Auction (0036-3002281) | GraysOnline Australia
A surface grinder without a table seems a little pointless.
Having said that, at least it wouldn't have the problems that GQ and Mike H are wrestling with at the moment - no table to not match the ways...

Nice find! That's an A Model Douglas Shaper (narrow foot) before the table front guide post was fitted to them.
I think it might be identical to Steamwhisperer's model.

Exactly the same as mine Joe. Bronze plain bearings and no pointer as well (love the description though)

    Default Dormer machine vise

eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d

Tis looks like it could be a handy vise for any machine (not the shaper). The seller cannot open the jaws though. He unscrewed the clamping bolt but the jaws bind when he tries to open them by hand. Does anyone know how these are operated? I wonder just how many drilling/milling craters it has.

    Hi Greg,
I'd say the "other" jaw does most of the moving(course adjustment) the jaw with the screw only moves a short distance and its almost all the way back.

It sure looks bigger than his sizes. I'm pretty sure it has a couple of other surprises in store also.

    Default Dormer machine vice

It is a quick release vice. The jaw at the end with the tightening screw has limited travel, and the pin low down at the side probably operates the release mechanism.

Since I posted this I found an old advertisement for it...its called a Dormer Down Grip, and the pins are the release trigger. I informed the seller, and he was able to photo the slide. Its unmarked.

I will have a mild flutter at it unless I win another unlikely prospect in the meantime.
