    Default Weather Boards for shed

i have finished the frame for my 2 x 1.6 m garden toolshed. It is made from 2" x 4" hardwood. I am planning to use treated pine fence palings as weatherboards.

How far should the boards overlap?

Are galvanised nails OK or should I use stainless? I assume Flat Head rather than bullet head?

Should I install a pine subframe to fix the weatherboards to? (I don't fancy pre-drilling the nail holes into the hardwood and since it is a post and beam type construction, I dont have any intermediate studs to nail to, just the corner posts)

Sorry Dion, I was scrolling through and noticed no-one had replied to you.
Overlap them a cm or so , use treated pine nails as everything else rots in the green stuff
I wouldnt go for a whole sub frame but a two vertical studs added in would give you some thing inside to hang shelves etc.on and stiffen up the boards.
I'm also a big fan of some form of diagonal brace and remember to ventilate and insulate.
    hope this helps

I would be lapping them at least 25mm as they will shrink and you will have gaps everywhere.

What % shrinkage should I expect across the grain in pine?

A real wet 6" tp paling can shrink 1/2" or more.

That's a 1 in 12 shrinkage rate - so, my 100mm wide baords should not shrink more than about 8-9mm?
