My 12 year old sons tray
Hes makin this from offcuts from the laptop... another story and thread
Anyway this is Joshys thread so I will let him write it...
Hi Im Joshua an I am 12 at school we dont do woodwork at all so the only woodwork I get to do is with my dad. I wanted to make something for mums christmas present so I asked dad what I could do and he said to use this for something
dad can put the pictures in for me. he gave me a peice of wood with a nice pattern on it and some nice sheoak for it and let me work out what I wanted to do. I could only think of a tray for mum to eat her tea on so with dads help Ive been making it I think I will put it into the show here when its finished maybbe i can win some money
dad and I started by making a frame for the board with the sheoak then we made some handles with some white wood from tasmania (yes Josh Huon Pine mate) and then we put some strips of Jarra an sheoak under it so it wouldnt come apart i think we also glued it
anyway here it is sofar i was going to put the handles on top but dad showed me wat it would be like on the sides an i like that better
thank youBelieve me there IS life beyond marriage!!! Relax breathe and smile learn to laugh again from the heart so it reaches the eyes!!

Josh has done pretty much everything to do with this tray and given that his school Brunswick Primary School here in West Aus (a small country town) doesnt do ANY woodwork at all  ...I reckon hes done a bloody good job of it so far
The only thing Josh doesnt do is use the large machines since like his old man hes a shortass with ducks desease a low wheel base and his eyesockets line up perfectly with the bandsaws table!... to say nothing of where his throat and chest are in relation to the t/s!
So Im going to make some large movable short benches he can stand on to learn... hes keen as mustard and loves bein in the shed and seeing the results of his "work"... sadly with me working away this is really very sporodic since when Im home we only get a couple of days together in there the rest of the time hes at school or doin stuff ...But he uses the belt sander the planer the jigsaw and I managed to show him the method of the sliding compound saw the other day... loved it!! ...he gets a tad impatient with the sanding by hand the using scrapers and handplanes but he does it
Anyway as he finishes it I will update it hes presently as can be seen gluing up the handle that broke with his efforts to drill through while having it too high... yep even my short benches are too high for him! so he will do the rest on the small one where the case presently lays and I'll get him back on here to let you know how he gets on at the show
CheersBelieve me there IS life beyond marriage!!! Relax breathe and smile learn to laugh again from the heart so it reaches the eyes!!
