Entertainment unit
Not content to ease myself into Woodworking, i decided to jump in and build my Entertainment Unit... I'd had the design in my head for a long long time and i'm glad to get it out and into reality...
EDIT: It occurred to me that people might want to know what it is made of... The Horizontal rails are Beech from Dad's stash from the Log he rescued from the creek eons ago. The legs and the edge around the top are Silky Oak and the rest of it is Plywood, including the Top and the Drawer fronts. we also put a Pine kicker on the bottom for when my wife vacuums...
how long did it take... 8 days construction and 2 days finishing...and a game of golf thrown in betweenLast edited by Chaps; 15th February 2006 at 11:13 PM. Reason: update..

Thats pretty cool. The splay of the legs and the dovetails are a good touch, but theres not enough detail! Whats it made of? Whats the finish? How long did it take?
Great Job!Have a nice day - Cheers

Great work. Planning for a huge plasma screen soon? So many people make an enclosure to suit the current telly, and also don't allow for heat dissipation.

Great work on the design and the finished unit!! The leg shaping really works for me. But, um, how are you going to open the drawers??
Cheers

Ahh yes, the drawers.. i think my Dad still curses me.... I haven't bought the handles yet (it is so hard to find the "right" ones). I'm thinking of some satin chrome bar-style handles, simple so as not to draw attention away from the unit itself.Of course it was only after i built it that i found out about Push release drawer Runners...
As i haven't got the Amplifier and the XBox 360 to go in the other slots yet, there is only one drawer in user which has a little temporary toggle attached on the inside to open...
Now all that remains is doing the matching Coffee and side tables...

Great looking unit, nice design.
Am I just pedantic in deciding on the drawer pulls before I start???? - seen a few works lately where all is done but the woodie is undecided on handles:confused:

i did have a set in mind but as it all came together, i realised that the handles i planned would be unsuitable....
Now if only i could finish the bookshelves that are mostly finished in the Shed... Unfortunately, it gets too bloody hot in the Shed so i only get a few hours work before it becomes an oven... damn that big Double garage shed!!
