Figured Coffee Table
Hi Woodworkers,
This is my second post, first one was The Stump (a burl coffee table). This was constructed during woodwork classes. The frame is redgum and the top is spotted gum (figured). Quite a hard design because of the 45 degree angled legs. I ended up making 2 jigs so as the legs could be slotted in the frame with a 45 degree dovetail.
Anyway, thanks for looking.

Top Questions
Hi BabyToolMan (Roger) and Dazzler,
Yes the top is solid spotted gum (ended up being 32mm thick). I connected it with biscuits, apologises, but I am not 100% sure what reverse bookmatched is.
Cheers,
Daniel

fabulous
If at first you don't succeed, give something else a go. Life is far too short to waste time trying.

Bindoon,
Beautiful job.
I love the wave effect of the top, very nicely handled. I would have gone for plain (not figured) base timber, so it doesn't distract from the top, but maybe the figure in the base is not as obvious as in the picture.
All the same, a marvellous job - well worth a greenie...

Great work and like the chosen timbers. One comment re the different timbers. The trouble with looking at colours on a monitor is that you don't know if they are a fair representation. I just felt that on my display that the top and base just didn't colour match well. However, based on previous comment this does not appear to be of major concern. Still, excellent work!

"If a man is after money, he's money mad; if he keeps it, he's a capitalist; if he spends it, he's a playboy; if he doesn't get it, he's a never-do-well; if he doesn't try to get it, he lacks ambition. If he gets it without working for it; he's a parasite; and if he accumulates it after a life time of hard work, people call him a fool who never got anything out of life."

Daniel, What a great table, looks fantastic & I like the Dovetail work on the legs. That alone is worth a new thread. I gree with what bob said in relation to colours on monitors, but I think the colours go very well together.
Most of us probably use out cameras in drongo mode, I would assume that your last photo had enough light so the camera decided not to use flash, but the light through a filter like a curtain perhaps changed the colour of the photo. Just my guess.
Anway, this forum is about woodwork, not photography & I thing your woodwork is A grade.
Well done
