jatoba & longhi mirror frame
These are WIP pics of a mirror frame I'm working on. My mom recently moved, and I ended up with this mirror. It's in nice shape, but the plastic frame just won't do. Well, I had nothing to do with this leftover jatoba, and I thought the longhi would contrast nicely with it, so here we are. I'll be making a frame pretty close to the shape of the original. The 4th pic shows the profile of the pieces.

Episode 2
OK... so last night I went to cut all the pieces for the frame. I was super-duper careful to have all the right angles and length. I even test cut on some scrap construction-grade pine. Everything measured up perfect. I really took my time and crept up on the lines instead of trusting my eyeballs.
So when I cut all the pieces on the wrong side of the boards......
Yea. I was more than a little hacked off.
I showed everything to my amazing wife, explained what I had done, and asked her to tell me what to do. Clearly, I couldn't trust my own judgment. She said to recut them with the right angles, even though it'd make the frame smaller. If I assembled them as it was, I'd ALWAYS be mad at the piece because it was cut wrong. She said I should remake the frame out of different wood, but do IT the right way, and go ahead and fix this one.
She was right, of course. She didn't judge me or take the opportunity to ride me. She just assessed the situation and decided what course of action would make me the happiest in the long run. That's why I'm so in love with her.
So, here's what I have now. It has turned into a semi-round picture frame. The second pic is with the original frame so you can see how much size was lost. The pieces are currently sitting on the shelf and will remain there for a few days. I don't want to glue it up right now because I'm still a little mad as it. Next week, I'll start the glue-up. It's just gonna get a basic tung-oil finish.

Wow. There are few things in the world (except maybe computers) that can teach you as many new swear words in such a short time!
what a shame, though kudos to your wife for providing a rational head in the situation. My wife has been known to extricate me from similar situations in the past
if it's any consolation, it looks great as it is!
Cheers,
Dave...but together with the coffee civility flowed back into him

Bugger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know this sort of thing just makes us mad, but....... it could make a lovely frame in itself, or the surround for a tray, or a mirror frame, or the beginnings of a box lid........
cheers
