The Lady of the Lake
here is another one to my collection of carvings
staying with australian hardwoods
jarrah 500h x 250w x 40t
60 hours of enjoyment
the pattern was from the crafters design library Fantasy by chris down
the stones are genuine real coloured glass facets
the rope border is pyrotooled
the finish is UBEAUT Traditional wax
this has been the best timber to work with so far
just remember if you decide to carve jarrah
your tools must be extremely sharp
any constructive critisism is welcome
cheers

Absolutely beautiful! As far as constructive critique....well, maybe do a right handed one sometime. Really though, seeing this makes me want to just hang up my tools as I could never produce such beautiful artwork.

wow that looks great, would have been a hard timber to carve.
saw one of the carvers in my clubs doing a rosewood chip carving plate once and he dipped his knife in car polish or something like that to make it easier to carve.Brett
Only Robinson Crusoe could get everything done by Friday!

Bubinga, oges
thanks for the replies
as for right or left handed - i find that being right handed, that i tend to look at my left hand for detail as i am carving with my right
Rick
its no good hanging up your tools as you would not be able to make any more boats
Bret
dipping you knife blades in a paste sounds to me that you would have problems when finnishing your project as any paste will clog up the grain/pores and leave a residue that may not let the polish take or even change the colour of the timber.
cheers
