Table for the Dogs
Hi,
I am building a small table & chair for my wife to groom our dogs on.
It's a bit of Deja Vu in a way, as my very first wood working project was a small table & chairs for my Daughter's 2nd Birthday. I asked my sister to make it for me as she is a very good woodworker & at the time, I was a Boiler Maker / Welder. My idea of joining 2 bits of timber together was to bang a nail in each of them & weld the heads together.
Any way, when I went to my sisters place, she made me do it. That was 11 years ago, and it was pretty dodgy, but after my Daughter finished playing with it, My Wife started using it to groom the dogs on. The table is still hanging in there but the chairs are ... well, actually the chairs arn't any more.
Well, now I am building pretty much the same project all over again, only with M&T joints & a bit bigger. It still needs to be pretty small as we have small dogs.
couple pics.

This is the first project I have used my new drum sander on.
Pic 1:
The top is made up of 3 board glued together. The boards had a few cracks & splits so I forced in as much glue as I could & rubbed on some sawdust.
Pic 2:
Top feeding into my drum sander.
Pic 3:
Same top feeding out.

Thanks for the encouragement fella's, as you both know, Friday is my woodworking day with dear old dad, but this friday he has to go and have stichers taken out, so he can't play.
I was pretty confident that I could remove them for him, but for some reason, he want's to go back to the doc
Any way, I got invited to go fishing on friday, so I might have a day off as well.
We'll fly into it again next week.

Bending over to wash and groom dogs is bad news. Good to see such a human-oriented project.
With 2 x 40kg Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, I have a problem of scale. So, after a fun outing to roll in bear crap. . . . . . ( Ursus #5)
The bathtub downstairs is set up on brick & masonry pillars, 5 bricks high. Made some steps to walk the dogs up and over one end. Y-joint mixer, coil hose and pistol squirt gun.
If I had to do a renno, I'd add 3 more bricks to each pillar.
My kids are now 30-somethings. I wonder where their doll houses and "little" furniture went. All I have left is the cradle.

I remember doing lots of things with my father, I didn't always enjoy them, or appreciate them for what I learnt at the time. As i grew older I began to really enjoy our time together.
Surprisingly, what i enjoyed most was cutting and loading firewood, shovelling gravel and erecting fernhouses and fences.Last edited by artme; 9th November 2011 at 07:44 AM.

Hey Robson,
Chesapeak Bay Retrievers, I had to look that one up. Nice looking dogs, & I love the pups. And Ursus #5, what is that, a grizzly? All we have are a few Kamakazi Drop bears up in the hills, but they are pretty timid.
Do you hunt with your dogs? Canada Goose? I used to have a Reminton 1100 12G., until the pollies took the legally owned guns away from the law abiding citizens after some nut case went troppo back in the 90's. Now all I have left is a couple od DB's 12G & a .22.
Our dogs are Maltese x Shih Tzu . Max is rather aesthetically challenged, so I have to keep telling him that he is the handsomest puppy in the whole village, & Molly just thinks she is a princess. My wife spoils them, ... not me though. The fact remains, that 97% of all statistics are made up, yet 87% of the population think they are real.

Gday again,
Well, it's ll finished.
This wasn't a difficult project, not an amazing design, & no exotic timber, but it was kinda fun.
I have also been building a new bench for my RA Saw at the same time, so it has prolly taken a little longer than it should have.
anyway, here's he pics.
