smallest and thinnest bowl i have turned to date.......
i'm really proud of this peice. it was a real joy to turn.
made out of a peice of silky oak that i got for a dollar.
dimensions
diameter 107mm
thick 1 - 1.5 mm ( ruler acuracy )
high 33 mm
you can get a good idea of the size by the way it sits in my hand in the foto
hut and shellawax for the finish.
i turned it on the face plate with a peice of crap wood glued to it. ( thanx guys for the suggestions. )
took me an hour more or less. with continued interuptions.
also with my last bowl, i had problems with tearout. that was not a problem today, mainly because of the different wood and my tools were sharper and i payed close attention to where my tool rest was. [EDIT because i forgot to put it in here when i wrote it]....i also used some of the methods that rsser advised in my previous thread
enjoy.......comments, advice etc are welcomeS T I R L O

Is that a bowl or a yarmulka?
Seriously, a very nice job Stirlo. I've only managed to make a thin stick out of a thick stick so far.

I also have a desk lamp set up past my tailstock to assist in hollowing. There's a feeling like nothing else when you can see the blood-red glow of the light shining through the wood! Try holding that bowl up to a bright light and you'll probably see what I mean...
