Tiger Myrtle Display Case
It's taken me a while to get around to making this I've been putting it off. It's to put a few of my sons personal item in you know his training mug his first woodwork project from primary school a toothpick holder 18th birthday beer mug etc. He passed away July last year and his thing have been sitting in a box in cupboard it seamed fit to give them a home.
The case is made of tiger myrtle it's a great timber to work with and looks fantastic the middle shelve is fixed in a stopped dado the top and bottom are fixed with screws and the moldings are hiding the screws the tiger myrtle back board bottom shelf is only glued at the bottom to allow for timber movement I've routed a tongue at the top and at the bottom of the hoop ply to hold it into place. The doors were cut with a rail and stile bit I trimmed the back to fit the glass. The glass is held in place with strips of timber just 4 dots of glue on each if the glass ever breaks I can prise the strips off with a knife or chisel the internal glass shelves have polished rounded edges. The case is finished with a oil vanish mix.Robbie
A farther carries pictures of his family were he use to carry his money.

...nice piece Robbie, I was thinking of doing something very similar for my Dad who passed away 2 weeks ago. You have given me some good ideas.
Cheers

I was just thinking last night of our son Ian who we lost 3 years ago and why I hadn't gotten around to putting the only photos we have of him up in a frame. He was 5 months early and never got to meet us really and since the move to our new home his photos have been in a box somewhere. This has given me the shove I needed to get things moving for him.

Thanks guys for the nice comments. It did feel good put it up on the wall and putting his things on the shelves in stead of leaving them in a box.
