    Default Toy crane

    Hi there,
Here's a shot of my boy on the wooden crane I just made him, for his 3rd birthday. It's an adaption of a plan I found in a 1980's UK Woodworker mag, and its made from recycled hoop pine, with silver ash working parts, tassie oak dowels and mahogany plugs over the screws. The finish is a mixture of China (Tung) oil and Carbothane, wiped on.
There are some dramas with the star wheel mechanisms, being a bit stiff in one direction. More detail in my blog.

    Cheers,
    Andy Mac

I was asked for a plan to make the crane, so here it is. Not ideal, and some measurements just aren't there, but I made it pretty well as I went along, with only a summary look at the original design and according to what I had on hand. Should be enough if you want to make something similar.

    Cheers,
