My Weber Q220 rolling cart
Hi, here are some pics of my rolling cart for my Xmas present, a Weber Q220. It is still new, never been fired up. It has been a long summer project, with 45 degC heat , if not torrential rain, during which times I could not get into my shed.
The brown top of the cart, and the brown extension tables, are all 1" ply with 1mm zinc allume sheet metal epoxied to them. The whole thing is covered in gloss enamel with a brush and rollers. The cabinet colour was selected to match the Weber lid at the Dulux trade centre, but it didn't quite achieve it, unfortunately.
All the drawer runners are soft closing, and the drawer handles I made on the router table with a round over bit and a cove box bit. They are fitted to the drawer faces by splines glued in, and screwed from the back where possible.
There are two heavy steel bars 100 x 10 mm running the full length underneath to give stability, and to let the castor wheels be mounted through the ends. The full gas bottle weighing 18kg and cantilevered on one side will not tilt it up - it is a heavy monster. The castors are 5" blue rubber wheels, great for going over rough concrete.
The Weber is mounted to the top via aluminium angle brackets shaped to the same profile as the Weber legs on linishing wheel, and screwed to the table top. The legs of the Weber are then screwed to these brackets, so it cannot fall off.
The black plastic side tables which come in the Weber are pretty flimsy. I reckon a kilo of snags would quickly fall off, so these things will be removed soon.
