Hi again,
First, a couple of pics to show how the doors came up after the panels were inserted and the whole shebang oiled and mounted.
I thought I'd show some pictures of how I use HBO on surfaces, including the appearance of the top at various stages. I'll do that separately
Regards,
Rob

Using Organoil Hard Burnishing Oil (HBO)(my way).
Pic 1: The piece is flooded with HBO, then the oil spread around 'til it covers the entire surface. It is then left for about 10-30 minutes to soak in.
After the oil has soaked into the timber, I start sanding with the ETS150/3 using the 400g pad I used to finish dry sanding. You can see that I have disposed of the vacuum. This is for two reasons. I don't want oil being sucked into the holes on the sander base and ( more importantly!) I want to be able to control how hard I am pressing on the sander. If you have the vacuum attached, the oil and sander pad suck to the work piece
Pic 2: The surface after using the 400grit. You can see swirls of slurry starting to form.
Pic 3: The surface after 800grit sanding. The slurry is now visible as "marks" on the timber.
Pic 4: Again after 1200grit, now you can see large patches of slurry. Note that it appears quite dry.
Pic 5 The piece after sanding with a 4000g Platin 2 pad. Note that there is no slurry left and the table top has a shine.
Pic 6: The work piece taken from an angle to show the reflection off the surface.
Pic 7: Top after a wipe down with a clean cotton rag.
Pic 8: Again from an angle.
The piece should now be allowed to dry for 3-4 days, then you can do what you want with it.
Regards,
Rob

Great result there with the oil. So steps 1 to 7 were with the one coat?

Hi Waldo,
Yes, one coat.
Here's another pic of the top.

Finally, it's at a stage where it can be installed. These pics show how it will look when set up and effectively show the finished product.

Rob, very nice job. One question - do you think that one hole in the back is going to provide enough ventilation.

Hi Bob,
Thanks for the kind comments.
I think it should be right. It's a 90mm diameter hole and I think they'll probably have the doors open when they are operating their electronics to allow their remote to work.
